Cat Attacks Postal Worker
No you haven’t misread the title, it is not the usual Dog Bites Postman story.
The culprit is, to quote its owner, a fluffy kitten, who playfully or otherwise leapt at the letterbox when the postwoman was delivering mail to the house causing injury to her hand.
The postwoman felt it serious enough to complain to her bosses at Royal Mail who responded by sending the cat’s owner a letter requesting him to keep the cat under control or risk losing his delivery service.
It is a natural response for cats to jump up at anything waved above their heads, just look at all the teaser toys for sale that are designed for this very purpose. A few letters accompanied by four fingers must have been an opportunity not to be missed by this playful kitten.
I do recall when I used to deliver mail order catalogues I was shown how to push mail through a letterbox in order that 1. My fingers did not get trapped by some of the more vicious boxes and 2. The dog protecting the household did not take my hand with the catalogue.
On a serious note, if you do have a problem with pets jumping at the letterbox simply fit one of those cages that catch all the mail and prevent pet’s teeth from making contact with deliverer’s fingers.
