Helping to create the Garden of your dreams, the way nature intended

Sparrow or Dunnock?

A friend recently told me that they could not understand the fuss surrounding the alleged decline in numbers of the Sparrow as they had loads of them visiting their garden.
This friend is not what you would call an avid bird watcher, merely someone who likes to see and feed different birds visiting the garden.
Another friend, on overhearing this conversation, suggested the said sparrows were in fact Dunnocks, this suggestion opened yet another debate, is the Dunnock related to the Sparrow, one book defines a Dunnock as a Hedge Sparrow. The general look of the bird suggests to the average person that the two are very similar.
I feel it is time for my friend to invest in a good pair of binoculars and a tripod!
