Grow Your Own Vegetables
I have it on good authority that the trend in gardening over the next few years is going to lean towards growing your own vegetables.
Most aspects of life tend to turn full circle, the same obviously applies in the garden.
Twenty to thirty years ago I recall most of my friends, family and neighbours had a vegetable plot, the more enthusiastic gardeners took on an allotment where there was fierce competition over the sizes of marrows and other vegetables that could reach disproportionate weights and lengths when fed with organic materials.
With the onset of new housing having smaller garden space, along with the cheap availability all year round of imported fruit and vegetables at local supermarkets, we saw a decline in the amount of home produced stock.
A change is occurring, sales of vegetable seed are on the increase, why? perhaps the threat of genetically modified crops is finally sinking in, maybe we are tiring of the bland, tasteless fruit and veg that appears on the supermarket shelves every week. Whatever the reason, I can testify that nothing tastes better than that which you grow and harvest yourself.
