Electronic Dog Training Collars. For or Against

Two words sum up Electronic Dog Training Collars, Ban them.

Supporters of these collars will say that the dog is not harmed in any way and that they are a good method of stopping a dog from barking.

Would they consider putting them on a baby that cries incessantly, obviously not.

Barking is a form of communication, my dog Duke has various different barks and each one means something both to him and to me.

I agree there are dogs who appear to bark non stop throughout the day and night but they must do it for a reason, find the reason deal with it and the barking should stop. The most common reason is stress or anxiety, the most common occurance is when the dog is left alone all day in the house. Dogs should not be left alone for more than four hours unless they have the company of another dog.

Some simple training methods can cure barking, these can be found in numerous training manuals, another way is to join a local dog club where the dog can socialise with other dogs and the owner gain invaluable advice from qualified trainers. The owner should not expect miracles after the first session, like all things perseverance is the key to success, the answer does not involve electrocuting the dog.

If you plan to have a dog and then go out to work for eight hours each day, expect a complaint from the neighbours.
