It takes more energy than you can imagine...dreaming up fresh adventures. Next task? Steal and bury that camera.

You are the only other person I have "met" who has observed that odd call in the night scenes on British television. What a relief... An owl, you say? Hmm. In British Columbia, we have quite an eclectic assortment of owls, but none I have met make such a dreadful sound. There is a Barred Owl in the woods where I have walked all of my dogs, but it is known for its silence.

Ah, the Dog Whisperer. I hear all about him when the doggie people collect at our forest, but sadly, I do not receive his show on my limited cable package. I like what I hear, but I do not agree with everything.

Deci is my fourth rescued dog and I'm accumulating quite a bit of knowledge (only first hand, not academic). Deci does remember. The others never did. But Deci is blossoming into a rather "special" dog. I have a fridge lock installed and may have to seek one for the microwave (which she recently conquered) and I bungee-cord the toaster oven (when not using it)...and just guard it, when I am!

That is an aside. I'm merely establishing the fact she is very different. I have learned, through my studies, that although we try to label people and fit them into our definitions, it is neither practical nor completely accurate. For instance, you can label ten people as being bi-polar, but if you truly take the time to listen to their experiences, they experience different clusters of symptoms etc. This is why we cannot use the same medications for every case.

I believe that dogs are simplified versions of humans. They have all the same emotions so why not have similar patterns of processing information...and retaining it. Your dog may not speak in a language you hear, but they do not forget anything...they just know how to get on with life!

Humans like to wallow. They also like to cling to things to "explain" why they are who they are. Heaven forbid we take responsibilities for ourselves.

Just some "off the top of my head" thoughts...as Deci is bugging me for our walk. She insists on routine. The others were more kindly on a Sunday morning!

Ah! And Deci tree-ed her first raccoon late last night! So much excitement. She is NOT a hunter (unlike Keisha, who was part coyote). Deci did not like the intruder, but would have had a good sniff before walking away. Sadly, a good sized racoon can kill a dog, even the size of Deci.

Her passion for food easily drew her away to the house.

Hi Sandy

Deci looks like a really happy dog now.
It really saddens me that some people can be so cruel to their pets, I am so pleased that you have rescued Deci and given her the TLC she deserves. I look forward to hearing more from you and Deci in the future.

I have also noticed that our television companies have obviously got a recording of a creature that they use for night scenes when making TV dramas.
I believe it to be an Owl but stand to be corrected.
I have heard a very similar cry whilst camping in various parts of the UK.

An excerpt from an email received today from Sandy and Deci.

Greetings from Canada

Hello Neil and friends!

I've been chatting with some "dog people" about your whistles, I'm generating some keen interest. I shall keep you up to date.

I've been plagued by dreadful curiosity...completely unquenchable...I watch many of your English detective shows (my favorite is Midsommer Murders), here in Canada. In every night scene, in most programs, there is the sound of a creature. I don't know if it is a bird or something else, but I HAVE to know what it is! The cry is similar to a distraught raven or crow.

I beg of you...put my mind at rest.

For your entertainment, I'm sending you "our" Christmas photo. It was mine and Deci's second Christmas together. She is a rescued dog who spent her whole life in a crate. She is a shepherd/akita/great dane.

I wish you well and great prosperity
