Garden Birds and Wildlife Stories and Sightings
Hopefully as many people as possible will participate in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch on January 26th and 27th 2008 it would also be nice to have stories and photographs of birds and wildlife throughout the whole year, which is why I have created this post for anybody who wishes to share their stories and sightings of our native creatures, or birds that visit our shores from other parts of the world, like the recent appearance of the American Sparrow.
The subjects do not have to be rare. If anything the common garden birds are more important to write about due to their recent decline in numbers. The same applies to some mammals that appear in our gardens, some forced into suburban gardens due to the rapid disappearance of their natural habitat through building and development.
I am fortunate to live on the edge of the countryside but it is an area that is rapidly being developed and I fear that in the not too distant future I will be surrounded by housing.
I was lucky to see a Mistle Thrush in the garden last week, feasting on the red berries of an acuba shrub. By the time I had set my camera up it had flown.
Photographs are always welcome, they will have to be emailed to me as an attachment which I can then resize and include below.
